Back in Black
Yes I am alive and well and all limbs working following the car crash. So let me rewind back to my birthday......
A group of around 20 of us headed out to the wonderful cabins in Nupar near Hveragerði which I had previously hired for the Weird Girls Episode 6 after party.
We set about part 1 of the evening, a civilised dinner party. The boys took a table from one of the other cabins we had hired and we ate our grilled lamb dinner in epic dining style.

For some reason, unknown in retrospect to all of us, once the tables were cleared it instantaneously became Rave O‘clock. It was only around 10pm. The cabin lights went out, the glowsticks appeared and we went mental. This was immense fun and hilarious when Hanna and Viddi arrived sober from work at just after 10 to discover a full rave in mid flow.

Once we had all become sweaty and out of breath the party changed into the obligatory summer house hot tub party. This section lasted for quite some time until the Rave kicked back in again....

Much fun and silliness followed thereafter with chats and games and more dancing until we gradually faded off into our various cabins and to sleep.
Palli and I started our morning by joining Viddi and Hanna in their hot tub for coffee and chit chats. Gradually everyone awoke, we cleaned up the cabins and at 3 those of us left headed off. The other 3 cars went straight to Hveragerði to order burgers for us all whilst Magga drove Palli and I a few km the other way to take the cabin keys back.
As we headed to meet the others going along the road around 80km/hr the slush on the road seemed to have frozen into ice, the back end of the car went out and we all knew shit was going to hit the fan. We span on the road for some distance, enough for us to all brace ourselves into position. I held myself against the seats and the door and wedged my legs under the glove compartment whilst saying the word "fuck" with more meaning and speed over and over than I ever have before. The spin took us to the edge of the road which was raised from the surrounding ground and that meant as soon as one wheel went over we knew the car was going to roll.
We stopped some distance later upside down with the front of the car wedged in the earth. I immediately shouted checking if everyone was ok and to get the fuck out of the car. This may not necessarily been the right or wrong thing but i have seen too many movies when the car blows up and getting out of it definitely seemed the best bet.
Shock is a very funny thing. Once out I began jumping up and down screaming "that was FUCKING AWESOME! FUCKING AWESOME! HOW AWESOME WAS THAT?!" until my legs shook so much I could hardly stand. I called Alli and shakily told him to get back here as we were not in a good state.

Magga Palli and I hugged and cried and shook whilst waiting for them. I decided that a sip of the vodka in one of the bags was a good move so the others arrived to see the very Absolutely Fabulous style scene of me waving a vodka bottle around and shouting at passing cars to fuck off. [Note: I do not have a driving license and thus did not think in my shocked state what this may look like to an outsider] Oddur and Addi made me put the vodka away, put a coat on and sit down as I was just limping and talking drivel but not before Oddur took some prized photos of us with the car which I will get this week. The police and ambulance arrived, they were immensely helpful and once we had dealt with this we all went to get some food and calm us down.

That night Magga and I hung out together feeling very weird and very much in shock but apart from major aches seemed ok. I went to bed but was quickly awoken with severe vomiting, this accompanied by extreme pain in my ribs and back continued until I woke Friða next door at 5am screaming as I retched. We called the hospital as I wasn't keen on going at 5am on a Saturday night which is prized drunk accident time and they said to take some anti sickness tablets and it would be fine. 5 hours later I was in the same state so Nathan came and took me to the hospital.
This was awesome, they gave me morphine which was lovely and delivered by lovely nurses. Lovely lovely. I had a go in one of those CAT scanners like in House (a show I am obsessed with incidentally) and they found some contusions and unhappy organs but nothing permanent. Since then I have had a hefty diet of pain killers and everything is all better with the exception of a very sore and massive bruise on my shin and rib pain at the end of the day. This, I have to say, is perfectly acceptable. I am very very lucky and am amazed at the efficiency of the car's safety thingamys.
I do not wish to repeat the experience, I have no doubt used up a few of my 9 lives and I have lost my macbook power cord which is a real pain but I see this as somewhat of a gifted experience. We are all OK.
Following all this there has been a fair amount of bed rest and watching of House. Until the weekend when I decided that it would be fun to join Eldar, Erla, Nathan and Alli for some party hopping round 101 Reykjavík.

Since then more krona blergh (see second post down) has meant I have been protesting in minus degrees and alot of people have become increasingly frustrated with The System. It hit me recently how incredibly hard January will be for this country. Many of the stores hanging on are just getting to the point where they can get through Christmas, after that many many will fold. The depression helpline at the psych ward is going to be inundated.
As part of my part to make the Kreppa Christmas [Kreppa is the name of the nightmare caused by the krona] more bearable I held a DIY Christmas day at my house on Saturday. I am in serious trouble thanks to the foreign transfer hooha in addition to the krona vs pound nightmare. Thusly everyone is getting home made gifts this year. I seriously do not have the cash for purchased fun.
Friða and her son Daníel, Karolina and Erla and her brother joined me at my place baking and making things for people. We drank jolabjor and malt and applesin and had an incredibly fun day. I am not going to go over everything we made because some of you reading this will be receiving and it will spoil the surprise....

After this I cooked dinner for the boys (tm) and we all went to Diljá's Christmas party, sang terribly to seasonal songs and many silly people (not I) drank too much eggnog. I was exhausted from my make and bake all day so pootled home at 2ish very content with my day indeed.

Following the launch of the Emiliana Torrini and Weird Girls video, the next 2 episodes are in organisation. Episode 7 will take place at the end of February. Thanks to the aforementioned Kreppa, I am having to find extremely cunning ways to operate this. Roping in support from those around and willing, which luckily for me are quite a few. Episode 8 will be a short film and happen in the summer. It is very exciting to see the people interested in taking part in the project and this far down the line it is finally possible for people outside of my head to see the overall concept.
Obviously many people wish for wedges of cash, including me, but I painfully pine to have a wedge of cash specifically to spend on this project. The ideas and plans I have for this are immense and I so very much want to increase the number of girls involved in each episode. As with most things – increase in quantity = increase in spend. Now, in the current climate, I do not have money spare and to add to it, most of the arts funds here in Iceland are on hold or canceled as the banks and large companies who ran these have folded or are on their way to.
This project is not saving the world or feeding the starving admittedly, but I feel its necessary in times like these to keep creativity and enthusiasm flowing for the good of morale and so am pulling out the stops to keep it going. I would like to thank the people who are helping me. Weird 4 LYPHE.
