Weird Week, Item 1

Finally, the video for Weird Girls Project - Episode 2 has been edited.

For those who don't know what the Weird Girls Project is:

I announce the next episode and a number of girls apply. The members change each episode (and so far increase beyond a number I have been able to manage). The ladies do not know what will be happening, nor what they will be wearing until shortly before the day. They are aware they will be photographed and filmed. The outfits are custom made. They are sent a theme song before the date and this is as close to knowing what's going on as they get. Each episode takes approximately 2 months to fully organise ahead of the event.

The project itself is the day's events but media is produced from each episode - so far photography and film. As the girls so not know what's happening they do not have anything prepared nor are they performers, unless they happen to be already, they are simply instructed on the day what to do and where to go.

The photography is professionally done. The filming is not and the editing is not. It is more a capture of the event itself. Witnessing what the girls are encouraged or led into.

The theme from the June Weird Girls project was 'Freak'. This is the video. The photos from episode 3 should be up in the next few days.

BusyBusyBusyBusy

As predicted I am head-spinning-off-neck busy, many things to do, much work to do, much to promote and yet I don't seem to be doing enough. Polishness for the gig at the end of the month seems to be getting silly with TV interviews and features in national newspapers. I CAN'T EVEN MIX, what is the world coming to? I put it down to the spandex. These wondrous photos were taken by Jiri Hronik for the Polish gig promo - 30 November in Warsaw - From Iceland With Love.

Due to this, my digital work and preparing heavily for the new year's eve gig at Nasa once again I have shamelessly abandoned updating this egocentric blog of mine and can hardly remember back to the last entry. Thusly this will be a patch job and apologies for such.

Way back on saturday 3rd November it was the double whammy of EVE fanfest and yet another Nýdönsk concert - this time at Nasa. I had arranged to drag Daníel with me to the saturday EVE-online party and had invited Evafró to come with so that I could do the necessary work chat and not leave him swimming solo in people talking about a video game he knew nothing about.

In the daytime beforehand Bjossi came over to got through set lists for the concert over an afternoon vodka. As you do. I busied myself with such rock and roll things as sewing on buttons, ironing and precooking the lamb shanks for dinner the next night as well as making that days dinner. By the time I was serving food they had written the first new Nýdönsk song and were somewhat pleased with themselves.

After dinner Bjossi left and Eva joined us to get ready for the night ahead. We went all out with the glimmer and headed off to Laugardalshöll for the EVE fanfest. Massive, absolutely massive numbers of Eve players. We stayed and watched the staff membered band but left shortly after to go and join the boys, or men rather, round at Jón's house for a pre gig gathering slash singalong. Silly fun.

The gig was lively, more so than the one the week before, mainly because gigs with seating do cut out a great deal of the fun. I was overwhelmingly tired though, this is partially due to the fact I have been eating things my pseudo diabetic diet doesn't allow since working at CCP there is food everywhere which I have succumbed to and ended up with zero energy because of it, thusly I am back on a strict track now. [note: this is not some 'i am too fat' diet, i love my hips and tits which is half the problem, but i have to follow this diet for many reasons, one of which being the avoidance of developing diabetes so fyi, i am not one of those 'do i look fat in this' girls]. Blahblah, anyway so tired I was that all the guys went on after the post gig drinkies to afterparty until the morning hours and Jón house being wonderfully close to mine, I opted for bed around 3 as I was in danger of falling asleep standing up. It is weird to do so when the people continuing the party are around a decade older than you. Life is wonderful with its little tweaks.

The following weekend I had another double whammy on the friday night. I organised a dinner party for the ladies I don't get to see so often due to hectic diaries - Björg, Sveinbjörg and Ásta. We discussed lots and ate lots (Björg had six helpings) Of course as one tends to do when someone is pregnant, we discussed babies - Sveinbjörg and Davo's in particular who is currently swimming around inside Svenni's belly and she had photos to show us of the little one. Crazy times, crazy times.

Afterwards Alex aka Big Red arrived with her friend Tim, they were visiting for the weekend from Jersey (that's the island in the UK not the American state). They had wonderfully brought me a care package to outdo any other care package ever. It contained all the things I miss and cannot get - or at least haven't found here.
Specific toiletries and food stuffs - horseradish sauce, cranberry sauce, angel delight (pikey i know), Wispa bars, dumpling mix and much more. One random item they brought was Jersey Black Butter. Its the feeling of christmas on toast, minced pies in a jam with a touch of licorice - its lush and rye toast is being eaten way too much because it tastes so gooooood.

We had drinkies of punch and then opened the real Absinthe I brought back from Prague and headed down to Organ for Ultra Mega Techno Bandið Stéfan and the Motion Boys.

CHECK THE MONOBROW PROGRESS. scary n'est pas?

Sadly I had found out that the Motion Boys could no longer play my party as Gisli had to go to Rotterdam for a festival and the day after I heard from Lauren and that she also could no longer come - one of her dearest friends was horribly killed in a traffic accident and flying off for gigs is not what one wants to be doing in such circumstance understandably. So now the birthday entertainment consists of Nuno LX djing, Begga playing a live set and Kalli performing my favourite Lionel Ritchie song Dancing on the ceiling. I love this track as its just party, its not a love song, its no political stance its pure 80s lets-have-fun-cheese. Hoorah!

Saturday night was Ben from CCP's birthday party which involved drunk men pretending to be Britney Spears, after which Harpa and I disappeared to meet the other drunk men in our lives who I wish would pretend to be Britney Spears because I think I would hurt myself laughing.

Sunday Alex and Tim rescued me from the morning after booze cloud which had nothing to do with me and took Evafró and I to the Blue lagoon. Aaaaahhhhhh. It is nice you know. Yes it is indeed. They both loved being here so much, as is the way more often than not, that both are coming back for visits soon. Tim's visit being in under a month! Iceland should have a health warning, it does tend to become addictive.

More fun is that the second issue of SHUT magazine has gone out, containing the second article I have written for it. The response to the last article was outstanding and the first day that this issue was distributed I received the following instant message from the editor Paul:

'my housemate just got a text from a girl who works in a shop in town, it said something about you being God...she just read SHUT'

aaah funfunfun. You can download issue 2 on their site.. go to the SHUT website, but don't do it if you don't like the highly offensive Jackass slash Vice magazine sort of thing. You will hate it if so. It is erm, somewhat uncouth. Don't say I didn't warn you. And if you want to read my article from Issue 1 whilst the editor sorts out making the whole issue available online, send me an email or leave a comment with your email address and I will send you the link to the single page.

Upcoming in the next week is Friða's birthday, Páll Oscar and me turning older also. I don't know when I will report back next, but hopefully I will at the very least have the official gallery for the Weird Girls part 3 in the next few days. Oh yes.
